I was 100% on board with this until your frankly uncalled for disparaging of the air fryer. We're recent converts and, i mean, it's great, but as a mature person i am willing to engage in debate here. what seems to be the problem with the fryers de air?

I love the title "notemaster"--many thanks! And, your observations on Notes ring true to me. Right now it feels smart and manageable. But it could go downhill sooooo quickly!

I’ve been “pre-bumming” about the future tragedy of the commons harkening from Substack Notes but then I realized that all Substack needs to prevent the next disaster is to #resist the urge to algorithmically enhance our click-ability. Substack, Hamish et all: please make that promise! Don’t add any fentanyl to our dope!

Matt, this was great! And now I'm subscribed so I can get more of your greatness delivered to my inbox.

I really appreciate what you had to say about group size and quality conversation, and you're right, we don't talk about that enough. Silicon Valley would have us believe that everything should scale, and if it doesn't scale it's worthless. That's not true, but that kind of thinking leads us to some really shallow places. I'm grateful for what Substack has done to create quality conversations, but I'm also wary because they're a tech business with a huge valuation and the need to scale for them is real. I get that. But I'm also encouraged by Substack's consistent commitment to slowing things down, making the barrier to entry just a little higher, and adding just a little friction here and there. All of that, and a whole lot more, has led to a lot of quality conversations for me. But the more I enjoy this space (and I'm enjoying it a lot), the more I worry that we're in the early innings and that someday, sooner than we think, scale will come for us.
