That entire Werewolves and Lollipops album is absolutely insane. One of the best comedy albums ever. “Now j*rk off to that, you lucky so and so!" is burned into the back of my brain.
Every article I have read about stand up comedy in the past two or three years had a quote from Marc Maron telling me what I am supposed to think. He is the Peter Buck of Comedy.
I think this still cuts too close to the point of telling people there's a range of appropriate jokes and who can tell them and that comics should be culturally sensitive - it's a view from progressive cultural norms and I'd rather not see that mentality in comedy. Sure, it's fine if certain comics actually believe in "don't punch down", fine. But I don't want to see a culture that that's expected, nor do I generally want progressive cultural norms to win.
